Senior Director, User Experience

Location: Toronto

FCV Interactive is a full-service agency. As a result of exciting new business wins, we are seeking a Senior Director, User Experience to join our Customer Experience team. You have a track record in transforming complex business problems into delightful customer experiences. You do this by planning and architecting solutions that deliver measurable results, and you've done it for major brands across all digital channels.

You will work projects with varied budgets - so flexibility and a range of delivery approaches and skills are required. You will be a champion for the end-user experience, and will be a team player expert in taking ownership of your work and the work of the UX team. You'll be involved through the complete project lifecycle - from qualification of new business efforts, strategy, user research and experience design & specification through to guiding the development and design teams in UX best practice implementation and governance.


  • Lead user experience teams on projects right from inception through to delivery
  • Assist in building FCV and client UX capabilities through expert consulting and training
  • Work with client stakeholders and FCV project teams to clearly define user experience requirements - user scenarios, user journeys, and content strategy – through a range of methods including workshops, 1:1 interviews and brainstorms
  • Lead UX teams to deliver great experiences for our clients that measurably add business value - using research, testing and analysis and developing UX concepts, flows, architectures and wireframes
  • Maintain and enhance the experience design aspects of existing and ongoing projects
  • Work closely with our Service Design, Strategy and Research teams to formulate user-centric strategies for clients across channels
  • Responsibility for seeking formal review and approval from the head of Customer Experience
  • Represent the agency as a champion, in marketing opportunities such as UX speaking engagements or presentations and industry networking events
  • Ability to work on fast-paced Business Development efforts, often alongside live projects
  • Present your work professionally and effectively, manage UX team reviews and implement feedback
  • FCV has a structured process and professional standards of time management and so expectation setting, communication and delivery are essential
  • Remain professional and effective under pressure and within tight deadlines
  • Assist FCV HR team in recruiting new resources to grow the UX team at all levels both directly through interviews and candidate vetting, and indirectly through networking events and relationship building with educational establishments
  • Lead and mentor UX team members to grow and hone their skills to unleash their best work 
  • Specific tasks will include New business qualification and vision setting, UX strategy, UX measurement & ROI planning, and leading UX teams to plan, create, test and deliver great experiences - including working with our design, development, production and QA teams to ensure the solutions match the UX vision

Skills and Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in a user experience, information architecture or comparable human factors role
  • 5+ years of experience in an interactive digital agency
  • Experience in leading, coaching and developing customer-focused teams
  • Hands-on experience managing resources, defining requirements, driving cross-channel initiatives and guiding service and discipline development
  • Extensive UX thought leadership examples 
  • Experience with successful UX business development efforts
  • A portfolio of work that demonstrates your capabilities across a range of brands and channels
  • Experience operating within user-centred design processes, and understanding experience design and usability engineering principles and how they relate to the visual design process
  • Experience in user research and analysis, including A/B testing, focus groups and usability testing is essential
  • Degree level education in a Human Factors / Interaction Design subject, or equivalent
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong problem solving skills and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to focus under pressure and deal with ambiguity
  • A sense of humour and positive attitude
